During the early hours of Monday morning and Tuesday asylum seekers gathered outside the Home Affairs Department in Nyanga seeking papers to stay in the country.

The reception was over crowded as a result things got out of hand. Police and the crowd control unit were called in to control the crowd, rubber bullets were fire but no one was injured.

The asylum seekers were complain that every time they come to Home Affairs it’s always full and the never get any assistance.

Bishop Lavis police’s spokesperson November Filander says the crowd went out of control as a result the police fire rubber bullets to disperse the crowd.

“He went on to add that the situation is currently peaceful and the police are monitoring the situation.”

I'm Thierry Carter from DRCongo,I have been here in SA for 1year now. The reason Y i came here in SA,bcoz of the situations we had in our country.
It's very hard and painful for us refugees in this country,to have peace, bcoz we have been killed, Robbed, and called as a (KwereKwere) as a foreigner the hardest thing that we experience is a paper, if u don`t have money it is very difficult to get a paper,, i slept there in nyanga for almost 3days just to get my extension but i did not get it....I am struggling a lot just to get my paper's extension and twice i have been rejected by the office of immigration in Nyanga.I hope we can feel safe at the Immigration office in Nyanga but we r not safe there. And the service is very bad..As the people saying that the Police are making order at the Home Affairs but the Police are not every where, where the people have been robbed. It's like today the 12.06.2009 i personally saw a Lady in her car have been robbed, they Broke into her car Window and stool her handbag, I felt really sorry for that Lady..I spend my money for transport every day but i don't get my permit updated...3days now
The reason i am Writing this is,because i don't wanna live in this country as a illegal person i'm doing my best to get my permit updated but i can't...This is my e-mail address Tams_carter@yahoo.fr
I am sorry if i've offended any one, because i know there is a lot of South Africans who have a good open heart and who understand the Xenophobia..And i thank those one who are welcoming us in this country...Thank you Bush Radio 89.5fm...
