The Foreign Affairs Ministry will assist the family of South Africa's Goodwill Ambassador Miriam Makeba in bringing her mortal remains back to South Africa for a funeral service and cremation.
Makeba died in Italy after performing on stage at the age of 76. It's believed she suffered a heart attack following her performance.
Spokesperson Ronnie Mamoepa says the family decided on the repatriation of Makeba's remains back to South Africa before cremation.
Mamoepa says government will assist the bereaved family in obtaining the necessary documentation from the Italian authorities.
