Yesterday the City of Cape Town launched the fire and floods preparedness programme which aims to create awareness in communities around the city about the dangers of fires as well as floods over the festive season.

Environmental Affairs and Development Planning MEC Pierre Uys said “our fire season normally starts in December and continues right up until April.”

“This is why we must step up prevention, creating more awareness and also give more assurance to the people of our communities that we are prepared to prevent but also to fight fires where it is necessary,” said Minister Uys
