A 44-year old man has drowned at Macassar Beach yesterday after getting into difficulty in the surf.
The National Sea Rescue Institute FROM Strandfontein say they were busy attending to a child who was rescued from the sea
“On our arrival on the scene it was determined that the child who had been in difficulty in the water was safe on the beach, he was not in need of any medical attention” said Craig Lambinon from the NSRI.
Lifeguards swam out and found the man floating lifeless in the surf. The man was brought to shore but despite efforts to resuscitate him, he was declared dead on the scene.
While the emergency services were a second drown occurred near the beach, they rescued a 44 year old, the man was not breathing.
Police are investigating the incident.
