The Department of Foreign Affairs says it is in contact with Yemeni officials about the fate of a South African woman and her two sons who were abducted in Yemen.

Spokesperson Nomfanelo Kota says they are trying to locate where the family is being kept and whether they are safe.

Yemeni officials have confirmed that the tribesmen who abducted the tourists are demanding the release of two of their relatives jailed for their involvement in a previous kidnapping in which the hostages were released unharmed five days later.

Kota says we will continue to pray that no harm has been done to them against them and for their safe release.

As soon as more information has been brought to light we will communicate further, says Kota.
