On Thursday after lunch Eskom decide to close the Modupe power station in Liphalale in the Limpopo province following a cholera scare among 35 workers.

Eskom’s Fani Zulu says 15 construction workers fell ill with cholera-like symptoms yesterday.

They were separated from other workers but by yesterday afternoon the number had increased to 35.

Zulu says it could be food poisoning, but laboratory tests will determine the exact cause.

Zulu says about 51 of the workers are sick on indication that it may not be cholera but we are taking all the necessary precautions to make sure we respond correctly, he says.
