Plastic bags filled with burnt human remains were discovered on Macassar beach.
Municipal workers stumbled upon the contents yesterday between the parking lot and the lifesaving club.
Billy Jones, Senior Superintendent for the South African Police Service, said Macassar police requested forensic experts to assist.
“They’ve confirmed that the ashes was indeed human ashes. It was taken to the Stellenbosch forensic laboratory.”
Jones said the lab opened an inquiry file to determine the circumstances surrounding the matter.
