A suspected robber was hauled into Claremont Police Station yesterday afternoon, after securities beat him severely.
It is alleged security guards and members of the public assaulted the suspected robber after he had snatched a woman's bag in Claremont Main Road.
Pictures sent to a newspaper by an eyewitness show one of the men at the scene, appearing as if he was about to kick the suspect, who was on the pavement.
After apprehending him, another security guard, armed with a baton, assaulted the suspect, along with a few civilians.
The woman, from whom the bag was snatched who remained at the scene and received her bag back shortly afterwards.
The suspect will appear in the Wynberg Regional Court on Monday.
