The National Sea Rescue Institute in Strandfontein was called out yesterday afternoon to investigate a suspected drowning accident.
17-year-old Justin Freeman went swimming with 10 other friends when he went missing.
The NSRI suspect the 17-year-old went missing while swimming but other possibilities are being investigated.
The SA Police Services and the Police Dive Unit were alerted.
Nawahlodien Panday, the NSRI Strandfontein station commander said according to witnesses Freeman joined a few of his friends in the water and got into some difficulty and disappeared under water.
“We searched the area thoroughly and called the search off at a certain time.”
The teenager’s family had been notified and the search will resume today. Anyone who can assist may all SAPS on 10111 or any police station.
