Residents of informal settlements are mopping up after heavy rains which fell over the weekend. The rains caused severe flooding in all over Cape Town with the Cape Flats being the worst hit area.
Charlotte Powell from the disaster risk management said this is due to high water table and limited line-off capacity.
“At this stage there about 29 informal settlements, 697 structures and 1 900 people have been affected”
Powell added that relief agencies are continuing to provide humanitarian relief in terms of blankets, clothing and hot meals.
“The disaster risk management centre will remain on high alert for any contingencies”
