The icy cold, wet weather is predicted for the Cape Peninsula and most of the coastal areas, residents in flooded settlements have called on authorities for urgent assistance.
Nearly one thousand people are known to be destitute after their shacks were flooded in heavy rain yesterday and last night.
The hardest hit areas appear to be Hout Bay, Delft, Gugulethu and Khayelitsha where residents tried to keep flood water at bay with sandbags.
City authorities say a number of operations to assist the hard hit residents are already and have appealed for warm clothing and blankets as a matter of urgency.
