A bystander was killed yesterday at a shopping centre in Harare during a Cash-in-Transit heist.
Two Security officials went into the mall with a cash-trolley containing an undisclosed amount of money.

The one Security guard went to the ATM, while the other official stood guard nearby.
Captain Bernadine Steyn said shots were fired which resulted in one security being hit in the head. He passed away on the scene.

The other security guard sustained a gun shot wound to his leg and he is in a stable condition in hospital.

“One of the suspects sustained a gunshot wound in his neck. He is currently in a serious condition in hospital under police guard.”

The circumstances surrounding the incident is still unclear and being investigated.
The suspects took the official assault rifle of one of the guards as well as the cash-trolley with money and fled the scene in a white Bantam bakkie.

“Shortly after the incident the bakkie was found abandoned in Khayelitsha. It was confirmed that the bakkie was reported stolen earlier this month in Kensington.”

Police have opened a case of Murder and Armed Robbery for investigation and anyone with information can contact the Investigating Officer, Captain Ivan van den Heever on 021 918 3672.
