Residents, who were relocated by the City of Cape Town from Site B in Khayelitsha to Mfuleni a year ago, are nowreturning to their original homes.
Working together with the Mfuleni municipality, the City of Cape Town moved the residents from Khayelitsha’s Site B to a new place in Mfuleni ward 108 where they now have houses.
Despite having homes, many recipients are not happy with their new location.
"Having to pay for transport for four people everyday is expensive. I pay for myself and my three kids to and from the nearest train station in Site C” said Nolungile Nqilo
“The families were relocated because there was more space to accommodate them in Mfuleni,” said Councilor Luzuko Ntshinga
He is looking into the allegations that people are renting their houses out and going back to their original places.
"I understand the community’s frustrations as I was also moved, but renting my house out is not the answer,” said Community leader Elvis Siyeka
