A truck delivering boxes of cigarettes was robbed in Mpetha Square in Nyanga.
It has been reported that two men approached the employees with guns and demanded the boxes.
“More suspects approached the employees after which a total of eighteen boxes of cigarettes to the value of R120 000-00 were robbed”.
“The group fled to a nearby parked white Ford Bantam bakkie. They are still at large” said Nyanga police spokesperson Ntomboxolo Sitshitshi.
Shortly after the incident SAPS members followed information up that the stolen goods were loaded off at a house in Crossroads.
Thirteen of the eighteen boxes of cigarettes were recovered inside a house in Crossroads.
The vehicle that was used during the incident was found abandoned nearby.
It was confirmed that the vehicle was reported stolen in Strandfontein.
An investigation for armed robbery has been opened and anyone with information can contact the Nyanga Police station on 021 380 3300
