The appointment of KwaZulu Natal MEC for Transport and Community Safety Bheki Cele as new police commissioner has been met with mix reservations by political parties.
Cele was named the chief of police by President Zuma yesterday.
“The Congress of the people is very concerned about the appointment”, said Cope’s spokesperson Phillip Dexter.
They supported their statement by saying Cele does not qualify for the post.
Dexter went on saying Cele is a politician and his appointment is political one.
“We are hoping he will do his job very well, although we are receiving his appointment with reservations,” said party leader Rev.Kenneth Meshoe.
“We welcomed Cele’s appointment very well, because it will save a lot tax payers money and Cele must not allow any political interference in his work, because he will go the same way as axed Jackie Selebi ,” said Independent Democrats leader Patricia De Lille.
