Disaster Management is underway with a clean up operation following the heavy storms that lashed the Cape this past week.

“ We are repairing and clearing up road ways that have been damaged by the rain. We are also helping people in 63 informal settlements across the Peninsula, about 20 000, who have been affected by the storms,” said Mandy Thomas from Disaster Risk Management.

Thomas said they were also asking the public to make contact with several of their NGO’s and encouraged them to assist where they can.

“ The contact details of five of the four NGO’s involved in providing aid, are available on our website,” said Thomas.

The Salvation Army, The Red Cross Society of South Africa, the Mustadafin Organisation and HDI Support are all involved in aid.
