More 70 people have been arrested for 201 warrants of arrest to the value of R200 000 in Bellville, Fish Hoek , Grassy Park, Mitchells Plain and Khayelitsha.

The drivers were arrested for illegally driving in the lane that is allocated for bus and minibus taxi lane on the N2.

Last week Cape Town realised a top 20 list of the drivers that owed the city money in traffic fines.

One of the drivers was arrested on Friday morning and the other was arrested on Sunday morning. Both drivers will appear in court.

“One of our traffic officers sustained injuries to his hand when he was trying to arrest a woman who had outstanding warrants of arrest. Two people tried to interfere but they were also arrested”.

“One is arrested assaulting a traffic officer and the other for hindering and obstructing an officer in the execution of his duties and aiding and abetting a wanted person to escape said police spokesperson Chief Inspector Merle Lourens.
