Illegal boat found near Robben Island

Four people have been arrested near Robben Island during a routine patrol.

The boat fled when they spotted the police.

“During the arrest police consficated equipment worth around R175 000. There was also various diving equipment onboard the vessel - dive bottles, flippers, masks and dive belts. The vessel was also seized.

“The boat was accompanied by police to the Port of Entry in Cape Town Harbour,” said police spokesperson Captain Frederick van Wyk.

The suspects will appear in the Cape Town Magistrate Court on Wednesday.

They face charges of operating a boat without navigation lights and the possession of illegal equipment in a prohibited area.
