The City of Cape Town Mayor Dan Plato has expressed his condolences and deepest sympathies to the family, friends and community of the late Leah Arends.
In a media statement the mayor said: “When such a young life is lost it is a tragedy for all Capetonians,” he said.
The two year old girl fell into a fast flowing sewerage drain in Pelican Park in Grassy Park at the weekend.
Her body was found at the Zeekoevlei Sewerage system on Tuesday.
Alderman Plato will meet with Leah’s parents today to personally convey his condolences and determine how best to support them at this time.
