Pupils and staff at 17 Western Cape Schools returned to vandalised schools today after the holiday.
A floorboard around a safe was removed and ceilings were damaged at Thorntonweg Primary in Crawford.
Computers, a PA system and a television were stolen at Lwazi Primary in Gugulethu.
The Western Cape Department has planned to use hand-held metal detectors at 109 high risk schools around the province next month.
This is part of their plan to make the schools safer.
