Police are requesting the assistance of the public in the search for the two week old baby, who was abducted from the Tygerberg Hospital on Friday.
The baby boy is known only as BZ Ncumane. No photograph of the baby is available.
Baby Ncumane was taken from the J2 Ward at the hospital during a visiting hour.
A nurse at the hospital says the baby was wearing a blue crawler. He is now 17 days old.
His mother is still in a coma in the same hospital.
Police say it is a possibility that the baby was taken to the Eastern Cape.
Anyone with information on the abduction is urged to contact the Investigating Officer, Inspector August at the Elsies River Police Station on 082 552 1095 or (021) 592 7092.
