Early this morning three armed suspects driving in a Nissan Hardbody robbed a cash-in transit security vehicle.
The incident took place at the Caltex Garage situated at the corners of Thorton- and Garth Roads in Athlone, while the cash-in transit vehicle was doing a delivery at an ATM on the premises.
According to police spokesperson Inspector Carin Loock, the suspects managed to remove cash boxes containing an undisclosed amount of cash and fled the scene in a silver VW Golf, which was parked close to the scene.
“This vehicle was occupied by three males. The Nissan Hardbody they were driving was reported hijacked in Gugulethu during June this year and they left it on the scene” she said.
Loock said one of the three cash-in transit guards sustained head injuries due to an assault, and her two male colleagues escaped unharmed.
No shots were fired and the suspects are yet to be arrested.
Any person with information that can lead to the arrest of the robbers is kindly requested to contact Crime Stop at 08600 1011.
