Two suspects, aged 28 and 37, were arrested yesterday afternoon during an operation by police members in the Cape Town area to monitor ATM’s.
The men were driving in a Silver Toyota Yaris which was noticed parked near an ATM in Long Street while the men were trying to assist people who were using the ATM.
When they returned to the car, they were approached by the police.
“In the vehicle, which belongs to a rental company, a skimming device and cards that can be used to obtain card information and make withdrawals and purchases were found”, said Captain Bernadine Steyn.
She said police also found information on how to open accounts on one of the suspect’s cell phone.
Also during a search at one of the suspects house a Corsa bakkie was confiscated, “It is suspected that the vehicle was purchased with forged documentation”, Steyn added.
The suspects will appear in the Cape Town Magistrates’ court on Monday on charges of Fraud and contravention of the Electronic Communication and Transaction Act.
