Three arrests were made by Somerset police after they acted quickly to information of an armed robbery at a liquor store in Main Road, Somerset West.
On arrival, police noticed five armed men running from the liquor store towards a car parked nearby.
The suspects fired several shots at the police, who returned fire.
One suspect sustained a fatal gunshot in his head and died on the scene. Another died on the way to hospital after suffering a gunshot wound in his chest.
The other three suspects were arrested on the scene. Police also confiscated cash and a 9mm pistol with rounds.
The three suspects will appear in the Somerset Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday.
They face a charge of armed robbery.
