This morning Golden Arrow bus drivers took illegal strike action after allegations of racism in the workplace.

One of the managers is accused of an act of racism directed at an employee. Following the incident, an agreement was reached to suspend the manager. He is however, still on duty.

“A certain manager is accused of being racist to one of our members, so that is why our members are striking,” said SATAWU provincial secretary Ivan Abrahams.

SATAWU says the protest is “not the union’s action, but a wildcat strike”.

“The union is not sanctioning the strike it is an illegal strike, but workers are on strike due to the belief of racist practices of the company,” added Abrahams.

Golden Arrow spokesperson Vuyisile Mdoda refused to comment on the allegations.

“It is an internal issue and is being investigated. I cannot talk about it now,” said Mdoda.
