The City of Cape Town is offering free Pap smear tests at 98 of its health care facilities to mark the start of Women’s Month.
“ The City is promoting the taking of Pap smears by women aged 30, 40 and 50 at all our medical centres. We would like to improve the quality of our service to women, starting this week,” said City of Cape Town Health spokesperson Soraya Elloker.
3 400 South African women die annually from cervical cancer – a treatable and preventable disease with early detection. This is the motivation for the free service.
“By doing the pap smear, women will know if they have cervical cancer or whether any early cell changes have taken place.
“We are advising all women to come to the City clinics and we will ensure that we prioritise a Pap smear this week,” said Elloker.
For details of your nearest clinic, contact Soraya Elloker on 021 391 5012 or 084 222 1478.
