As part of the Industrial Development Cooperation’s (IDC) Township and Rural Hospital scheme, two hospitals in the city have benefited from this project.
MeloMed Bellville has been expanded to its full 123 bed capacity and MeloMed Gatesville was granted a further 40 beds.
The IDC initiated the scheme to ensure development in previously disadvantaged communities.
Publicity Manager at the IDC, Mphilo Dlamini says: “We are particularly happy that the developments will benefit the targeted communities directly.”
The upgrading of the two hospitals will provide medical services to more than 3 million patients and promises to boost job creation in the communities.
“The two hospitals will assist more than 3 million patients and create work for the community.
These hospitals employ people from the communities, the staff and management are from within the community,” said Dlamini.
