Two suspects were arrested on charges of dealing with dagga just 10 km outside Beaufort West yesterday.

The two who were travelling on two separate trucks on their way to Cape Town, were stopped by police on the N1 highway on Beaufort West / Leeu Gamka Road.

Police spokesperson Captain Bernadine Steyn says police then confiscated dagga worth more than R1 million.

“In the trailer of the first truck that was searched, 29 bags of dagga with an estimated street value of about R880 000-00 were confiscated. In the trailer of the second truck, 9 bags of dagga with an estimated street value of about R240 000-00 were confiscated,” said Steyn.

She says the vehicles, which were travelling together, were transporting tupperware and milk powder and owned by the same company.

The suspects, both 38 years-old from Durban, were arrested on the scene.

They are expected to appear in the Beaufort West Magistrates’ court tomorrow on charges of Dealing in Drugs.
