An armed robber has been shot dead and other injured in Kuils River yesterday as police foiled a cash-in-transit heist.

A gang of eight robbers held-up the driver of a cash van, but police intervened and a shootout occurred.

A second robber was wounded and six others arrested after a chase on foot.

The foiled robbery took place outside a shopping centre in the main road of the suburb.

“The deceased was declared dead on arrival of emergency services, the other person sustained multiple gunshot wounds but was in a stable condition,” said ER24 spokesperson Tristan Wadely.

Police are investigating the incident.

I live just next to where this took place and although I feared for my life after hearing the sound of reigning bullets, I must say that the police presence at the scene was amazing. Well done to the SAPS, armed response, the coin van drivers and everyone else involved.

Also - it did not take place in the main road, it took place at the back of the shopping centre, in the alley road leading to my complex gate.
