Police made breakthrough in their investigation of double murder that occurred in Lower Crossroads earlier this week.

This is after two suspects arrested yesterday afternoon for murdering a couple.

25 year old Lonwabo Mgqontsi and his 20 year old girlfriend Fikiswa Ncatana were gunned down in their shack on Monday morning after three men demanded cash.

Police spokesperson Inspector Nondumiso Paul says the arrest follows after the Phillipi East Dectectives acted on the information they received from the public.

The suspects aged 18 and 20 were arrested in the “Vlei” in Philippi and in Lower Cross Road.

“The suspects were also linked to other serious crimes which occurred after the double murder like car hi-jacking, robbery of cell phones and theft of a motor vehicleand of a firearm,” said Inspector Paul.

Police also discovered the deceased's Hi-Fi-DVD system which was already sold to a community member.

The third suspect is still at large.

The two will appear in the Athlone Magistrate court tomorrow on murder charges.
