Hundreds of police officers took advantage of National Commemoration Day to pay tribute to their fallen colleagues who died in the line of duty.
The ceremony was held at the Union Buildings in Pretoria today.
There was dead silence as the names of policemen and women who had been killed were read out at the wreath laying ceremony.
Police Commissioner Bheki Cele told those present not to be discouraged by the number of their murdered colleagues.
Cele said community involvement could go a long way in decreasing the number of police officials who die every year.
The commissioner and Police Minister Nathi Mthethwa laid their wreaths in memory the 105 policemen and women who died in the past year.
