A man is out on bail of R1 500 after being charged with crimen injuria for allegedly insulting former president Nelson Mandela during a potjiekos competition at Sun City.
North West police say in a statement Benjamin Burger, a shareholder of the security company hosting the competition, allegedly played a remixed version of the national anthem on Saturday.
The changed lyrics repeatedly used the k-word to describe Mandela.
One of the people attending the competition alerted the hotel manager, who informed the police.
Burger will appear in court again in December.
