An off duty policeman has been found dead in Oudtshoorn. It is believed the policeman who is stationed at Lansdowne shot himself in the bathroom.

Police spokesperson Malcolm Pojie say the deceased entered the Bridgeton building while an on-duty police officer was busy in the community service centre.

"He apparently removed the on-duty police official's service pistol from his holster and went into the ladies' restroom, shortly thereafter, a gunshot was heard."

“The deceased was found with a gun shot wound in the head, police forensic experts would examine the scene and investigate the circumstances surrounding the officer's death,” said Captain Malcolm Pojie.

The Independent Complaints Directorate had also been informed added Pojie.
