African National Congress national executive committee members Jackson Mthembu and Winnie Madikizela-Mandela have visited wounded Togolese soccer player Kodjovi Obilale in Johannesburg’s Milpark Hospital.

Obilale was wounded when rebels ambushed the Togolese soccer team in Cabinda on Friday.

They were on their way to participate in the African Nations Cup tournament.

Doctors are satisfied with Obilale’s progress after he was flown to Johannesburg for an emergency operation.

Meanwhile, Togo midfielder Thomas Dossevi has described the Confederation of African Football’s decision to disqualify the team as “ridiculous”.

The squad flew home for a mourning period following the deadly attack on their bus in which three people were killed.

Dossevi says it would have been simple for the team to return to Angola and play against Ghana on the 21st of this month.

But a CAF official says it will be impossible to change the tournament schedule.
