231 inmates from the Pollsmoor prison have been positively linked to 298 pending cases.
This followed after members of the police together with the Correctional Services continued their suspect tracing operation at the correctional centre over the weekend.
Police spokesperson Inspector November Philander says the focus of the operation which started early on Saturday morning till noon was to establish whether trial awaiting prisoners in custody could be linked to other cases pending.
“Cases that they are linked with includes murder, attempted murder, rape, indecent assault, robbery, assault, domestic violence, theft of motor vehicles, pointing of firearm, possession of firearms, possession of dangerous weapons, possession of drugs amongst others,” Philander said.
Philander says the positively linked suspects will be requisitioned to appear in court in the implicated outstanding cases.
He says the operation is another indication of the commitment the South African Police Service has with other law enforcement agencies to combat crime.
