The execution of Operation Razor by Metro Police netted 58 arrests around the city at the weekend .
44 motorists were arrested for drunk driving on Friday evening. In Mitchell’s Plain alone, 36 arrests were affected. Meanwhile, in Kuils River seven motorists were arrested for drunk driving at a joint roadblock executed by the metro police and members of the Kuils River police station.
Aside from the roadblocks, suspected drug houses were also searched.
According to Deputy Chief Yolanda Faro “more community members are coming forward with complaints regarding illegal activities in their respective areas and with the good working relationship with other enforcement agencies, which include the South African Police Services, we embark on regular joint operations to combat and address drug related crime in the city”.
Faro also commended the work of the officers and vowed that Metro Police will continue to crackdown on drug related crime.
“Our members are doing excellent work and apart from the many roadblocks and house searches, we continue with enforcing traffic violations and the city’s By-laws. During routine vehicle and foot patrols, we issued 542 traffic fines whilst 6 by-law offences were recorded.” said Faro
