The City’s Copperheads came to the rescue of an off-duty Johannesburg policeman who had been attacked on the N2.

“The inspector was visiting Cape Town and at approximately 11 am on Monday morning, his car broke down on the N2 between Borchards Quarry road and the Airport turn-off.

“When members of the Copperheads drove past the Inspector and his broken down vehicle, they saw him being stabbed by two males,” said the City’s Neil Arendse.

Arendse says this prompted them to speed off to the scene to assist the inspector.

As police approached the vehicle, the two assailants fled towards the Crossroads area. The Copperhead members decided not to pursue the culprits, but assisted the injured inspector instead.

“They immediately loaded the Inspector into their vehicle and rushed off to Vergelegen Medi Clinic in Somerset West, where emergency staff tended to the Inspector upon arrival. Emergency staff who assisted the Officer stated that the prompt response of the Copperhead members probably saved the life of the Police Officer,” said Arendse.
