Four suspects will appear at the Paarl Magistrates Court on Monday on a charge of armed robbery.
Captain Frederick van Wyk said flying squad members were conducting patrol duties near Muldersvlei Market in Klapmuts. He says the vehicle the assailants were travelling in nearly drove into the squad members.
“After the community shouted armed robbery, the vehicle sped off at a high speed and members immediately gave chase,” said Van Wyk.
Van Wyk added they chased the suspects for approximately 5 km’s when the suspect’s vehicle tipped over. Two suspects jumped out of the vehicle and fled in different directions, a third suspect was arrested inside the vehicle. We later managed to arrest a second suspect in a nearby field.
During the arrest and search process, two firearms and three cellphones were seized.
The four suspects aged between 30 and 34 will appear in the Paarl Magistrates’ Court on Monday on charges of armed robbery.
