Fire fighters stationed at Sea Point will be awarded with certificates of appreciation from the City after their swift action saved the life of a 12 year old boy suffering from a severe asthma attack.
The boy, who was accompanied by his mother and sister, sought assistance at the Sea Point Fire Station. Soon after their arrival, the boy suffered respiratory shock and went into cardiac arrest.
Staff immediately initiated CPR and managed to resuscitate him after several attempts.
Paramedics from the Milnerton Fire Station arrived soon after the boy started breathing again and assisted in stabilising him.
The boy was taken to the ICU of the Christiaan Barnard Memorial Hospital.
Chief Fire Officer Ian Schnetler, commended the staff for their prompt response.
"The actions taken by the staff emphasize how basic, intermediate and advanced intervention worked like a well-oiled machine. We are proud of our fire fighters for saving the boy's life," said Schnetler.
The boy has made a speedy recovery.
