The Western Cape Community of Safety have sent out numerous warnings in the past few weeks that provincial traffic officials would be out in full force.
Despite these stern warnings 42 drunk drivers were arrested this weekend. On a more positive note the Department of Community Safety’s Safely Home Campaign has been a step in the right direction, with more road users 928 speedsters down from last weekend’s.
Minister of Community Safety Adv.Lennit Max says “we will continue to patrol our roads, with zero tolerance approach to motorists guilty of drunk driving, unlicensed vehicles and drivers, unroadworthy vehicles and speeding”.
He also stated that he wants to see a bridging gap between road users and law enforcement officers so that road safety is not only a combined effort, but in fact becomes a way of life in the Western Cape.
