One of the four South African flags used during the helicopter fly-over at the inauguration of Nelson Mandela in 1994 will soon be handed to Stellenbosch University for safe-keeping.
The flag, signed by Mandela, FW de Klerk and Thabo Mbeki, will be handed over in a custodianship ceremony next week.
“Stellenbosch University feels very honoured to be custodians of a flag that symbolises the birth of our democracy”, University spokesperson Mohammed Sheik said.
