The African National Congress Youth League is outraged by the lack of safety for pupils after a number of recent incidents at schools.
Several incidents that have to do with school safety have made national headlines including a case of a 15-year-old girl alleged she was raped by three boys at a school in Jeppestown in Johannesburg.
ANCYL provincial secretary Ayanda Kasa-Ntsobi said "The common disturbing thing about these incidents is the apparent excessive use of alcohol by pupils. We reiterate our call for stringent measures to be applied for the sale of alcohol".
Kasa-Ntsobi added that it’s the responsibility of the community to ensure that we monitor the behaviour of our children and apply immediate corrective measures when they make a mistake.
