A shack fire in the Western Cape has claimed the lives of a father, his brother and his three children in Guguletgu on Friday evening.
34-year-old Mzoxolo Hlalayedwa, his three children Asoze Pomtala, 10, Onako, 8, and Esinako, 5, and his brother Siyabulela Saliti, 19, died in a fire that destroyed their shack in the Barcelona informal settlement.
The mother Ncakiswa Pomtala who was in the Eastern Cape following a funeral went into shock when she heard the news of her family.
Pomtala was immediately admitted to hospital.
It is believed that the fire started at the family’s shack that destroyed 10 other homes.
