Eskom to get a 20-billion-Rands equity injection

Lusanda Bill
11 November 2010

Today Cabinet has approved a 20-billion-Rands equity injection for Eskom.

After initially saying the funds would come from the selling of what was described as "non-strategic and non-core" assets, government spokesperson Themba Maseko admitted that communicators had made a mistake.

The money will be coming from Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan’s budget process.

The investment will fall over three years and government hopes that the investment will strengthen Eskom’s balance sheet.

Through this investment by government Eskom will now have the ability to deliver two coal power stations in the next two years.
