The Western Cape MEC for Social Development Patricia de Lille will be launching a roadblock operation today as part of the 16 days of activism against women and children.
Ms De Lille says there will be 176 roadblocks throughout the province, eleven everyday to help families track down fathers who don’t pay maintenance.
She said, “If fathers are not there for their children, the least they can do is to take responsibility and pay the monies owed.”
As part of the campaign the names of non-paying dads will be published.
She will be handing over 298 warrants of arrest to MEC for Police Kenny Africa in Delft this morning.
A total of R2 316 508 is outstanding in the 298 cases.
