Lusanda Bill
19 November 2010
Motorists have been warned that all enforcement officials from national, provincial and municipalities will not be given leave in order to watch over the countries roads.
Since the beginning of October, over 1.3 million cars were searched, over 4,000 vehicles have been impounded and over 2,000 drunk drivers were arrested.
The transport department wants to stop and search one million vehicles per month, to ensure that all cars are roadworthy and that drivers are sober this festive season.
Transport Minister Sbu Ndebele said “I can give you a personal commitment that it is going to happen every month. We have committed ourselves that by 2014, death on our roads must be halved”.
