A man was critically injured last night when a minibus taxi he was traveling in collided with an articulated truck on the M1 Higginson Highway near Havenside.
The South African Police Force has opened an investigation to find out what might have caused the accident.
Netcare 911 paramedics at the scene had to free a passenger stuck in the wreckage in the front of the taxi using the Jaws of Life.
Once freed the man was treated and stabilised at the scene before he was transported by ambulance to the R. K. Khan Memorial Hospital.
