The Department of Correctional Services have released a statement stating that two correctional services officers were killed this week in the country.
Officer Jannie Brits was gunned down yesterday at his residence in Witbank Correctional Centre in Mpumalanga. He was shot and critically wounded but he later died in hospital.
Also in the same week another officer was killed by an offender serving a life sentence.
The offender has since been re-arrested and will be charged with murder and escaping from lawful custody.
