An early morning fire has destroyed 11 shacks, leaving 40 Nyanga residents homeless.
Fire rescue services from Mitchells Plain, Gugulethu and Ottery were dispatched to the scene to bring the fire under control.
“At first light this morning, City Disaster Response Teams with the assistance of the Department of Social Development of the Provincial Government of the Western Cape were on-site to assist the victims with food parcels, blankets, baby packs and building material,” says Solomons-Johannes.
Disaster Risk Management’s Wilfred Solomons-Johannes says no one was injured and an investigation into the cause of the blaze has been launched.
