The Western Cape police have confirmed that the suspect arrested in connection with a weapons cache in Durbanville last week is a former policeman.
The cache included explosives, firearms, and ammunition at the farm.
The 59-year-old man is hospital under police observation as he recently underwent a back operation.
It remains unclear if the weapons can be linked to any robberies in the province.
The suspect is also a co-owner of a gun shop in Bellville.
